The idea of this page is two fold. Firstly I've been asked what I've been doing since the Uncle Tom's days - so I've done a potted history of my professiuonal career. But firstly I am going to write a few lines about every event we hold. The idea of this is that it will keep anyone who missed an event in touch. So here goes.

Well we've made another year, five years ago when we started they said it would never work, guess they were
wrong. It was good to be back after our short break and to see all my Motown people. Thanks to everyone who
turned out on a cold first night of the year. Loads of my regulars were with us, and we also had some "Motown
Virgins" some rowdier than others, but you are all welcome whoever you are.

We only had one birthday to report so happy birthday Sue I'm pleased you made it to the Motown for your

FRIDAY 23RD DECEMBER - WALKDEN LEGION

Well I ask you is there anywhere better than the Christmas Motown. I can't believe it year after year you turn out
in numbers for our Christmas Bash. Can I personally thank every one of you who turned out, not just for this night
but for the whole year. I'm not sure if we had many "Motown Virgins" or not, but if you'd never been to the Motown
before, now you know why people go on about it so much. Unfortunately we had to put the "House Full" sign up at
about nine o'clock, if you didn't get in I'm truly sorry but I have been going on about it for weeks and weeks to come
early and as I'm sure you'll realise the place only holds so many.

Only a couple of birthdays to report, firstly we had Jane who was out with the gang to celebrate her 50th, you
couldn't have chosen a better place my love for that special night. Then we had a belated one for my mate
Marie from the sandwich shop. Happy birthday my number one girl, you managed to keep that quiet.

Ok that's it for 2011, lets hope that 2012 is as good as this year has been. I promise you that while we get your
great support, we will keep it going. That's as long as I don't drop off the perch. Me and the team are now going
to have a short break. But we will be back refreshed and bouncing in 2012. The first night is at Farnworth Vets

goes to show you can never tell. A big thank you to all my regulars who turned out as always and a special thanks
to all the motown virgins who were trying the motown for the first time. Come again folks it's like sex the more

correct name Philomena (sorry if I've spelt that wrong). All the lovelies were out celebrating that special night happy birthday my love. Also another special we had was the Christmas bash for the scouts & guides, they come every

time. Also welcome back to some faces that we haven't seen in years.

Only one birthday party, but what a party, a very happy birthday to the lovely Emma who was out with the girls
celebrating that special night. There's no place better for a proper birthday bash. The girls even ended up on

Back at Little Hulton for the last time of the year. Seems a very long time ago when this was where it all began.
Many thanks to everyone who turned out both regulars and Virgins, you know that you are all welcome as always.
Our Blackpool gang returned with loads of storys some good and some not so good. The main guilty party seems
to have been Peter Perfect, from here on known as Captain Torpedo. The laws of libel stop me putting the full
story in print, but should you wish to know anyone who was there will tell you. Still we made a small presentation
to him to mark his feats.

Quiet on the birthday front again. We only had one birthday and that was Steve who was out with his friends
celebrating his 40th with us at the Motown. As a one off and something different we had a dancing show from
Detroit Dave. Dave was at Blackpool in the Northern Soul dancing competion where he finnished 8th out of about
400 which is a hell of an effort. Nice one Detroit, message to Messrs Roberts and Sterling we thought our man should
have won, but I suppose it's all about opinion.

This one was the last one of the year at Little Hulton, but we will be back next year, our first night here will be
on Friday 10th February 2012. come and join us you know it makes sense. If you fancy Motown next week you
will find us at Walkden Legion, hope to see you there.

We also had quite a few long distance travellers who were trying Swinton for the first time, I hope you thought
it was worth the effort folks, you know you will always be welcome at the Motown.

This was our seconf visit to the Botanical Gardens at Tyldesley, unfortunately it wasn't as successful as out first
visit. I'm not sure if it was the nearby Scooter Rally or Tydesley doesn't want Motown but hopefully it will
improve for our next visit. Many thanks to all my regulars who travelled in from all over Greater Manchester, and
also a special thanks to the many "Motown Virgins" who were trying the Motown for the first time. I hope you
will come back again next time we are at "The Garden".

that special night. Happy birthday Suzanne I know you had a great night. If you've got a birthday at the Motown

Swinton British Legion, thats always worth a visit.

MY PROFESSIONAL LIFE:

I started disc jockeying at "The Limit Club" Middleton where I was the assistant to the
assistant of the assistant of the disc jockey (In other words I went for the Coke's no booze in those days). From there I went as second assistant at "Bury Palais"(big promotion). Eventually the big break came and I got a job as number one disc jockey at a club on Deansgate in Manchester called "The Majestic" This was quite a popular club mainly Motown/Soul All Nighters the lot. From there I went to "The New Century Hall" in Manchester this was all big name charts acts Who/Small Faces/Etc.I was also at this time doing one nighters all over the country. Then the call came from one Tom Brown would I like to DJ and part manage a club in Little Hulton called "Uncle Toms Cabin". To be honest I don't think I even knew where Little Hulton was then, I soon found out. There is a full Uncle Toms story elsewhere on the site. This is where I first meet Jimmy Barlow and we have been friends ever since. From there I went to" Uncle Toms Cabin" in Darwin near Blackburn (this was both Cabaret and Disco). Eventually I moved on from there and worked at "The Beachcomber" and "The Empress" clubs in Bolton. Then came my first stint in Torquay where I worked at "The Compass Club". By this time I was doing more managing than disc jockeying which was probably a mistake. I then came back to Manchester and ran "The Brown Cow" which was a disco pub in Middleton. Then it was back to Torquay working between "The Compass Club" and "The Blagdon Inn". At "The Blagdon Inn"we ran an authentic "Spanish Barbeque" (All Viva Espania, San Gria, and people dancing on the tables). Then it was back to Manchester again where I ran "Bennys" a nightclub in Radcliffe owned by the footballers - all very glam. Then it was back to Torquay for my last season there when I worked across four clubs and also had my own guesthouse. The final move back to Manchester took me to managing firstly "The Talk of The North" in Eccles, and then "Blightys" in Farrnworth. Then I decided that that was enough and set up my present business and took a break from the nightlife.
That's a very short history, I could write a book about it all (I may do one day).
