The idea of this page is two fold. Firstly I've been asked what I've been doing since the Uncle Tom's days - so I've done a potted history of my professiuonal career. But firstly I am going to write a few lines about every event we hold. The idea of this is that it will keep anyone who missed an event in touch. So here goes.
FIRSTLY THE BLOG:
FRIDAY 23RD JULY 2010 - TOP CLUB LITTLE HULTON
Little Hulton I love you, tell me anywhere that the people are as mad as this and I'll call
you a liar. They have been having the time of there life for at least 40 years to my knowledge, and it shows no sign of easing up. Thanks to the "A Team" it was good to see
it's ex leader Tone back with us at the Motown. Tone's been absent for a bit due to pressure of work., time you looked for job share Tone. Not to many "Motown Virgins" with
us last night, but if you were new hope you enjoyed yourself.
Going to pass on the birthdays this week as the big visit came from "The Slappers on Tour". To explain this is my mate Michelle and loads of her friends who have raised loads
of money for Christie's, and are known all over the place as "The Slappers". I love you
girls cause you really know how to enjoy yourself.
Thats nearly it apart from smacked bottoms coming for my favourite "Tambourine Thiefs"
Lynette and Julie. Good job I love you girls.
We're back at the Top Club on Friday 20th August 2010, make sure you are there gang.
If you fancy Motown next Friday, make it to Farnworth Vets it's a good un.
FRIDAY 16TH JULY 2010 - SWINTON BRITISH LEGION
Nice to be back at Swinton, they certainly know how to enjoy themselves at Swinton.
This was another good night. It was a bit of a thin turn out from the "A Team" seems that
some of them didn't fancy travelling. But no matter cause we were overun by "Motown
Virgins", it was great to see you ladies.
We seemed to have loads of birthdays, you won't find anywhere better to celebrate
your birthday than the Motown. Well the big one belonged to Susan, who turned out
with a bevy of beauties for the big night. Then we had a double celebration of Cath
and Carol who came for the birthday bash with loads of friends. And lastly we had the
birthday of Angie who was with us with the girls to celebrate that special night.
We'll be back at Swinton in four weeks on Friday 13th August 2010, try and make it
you won't be sorry. If you fancy Motown next Friday we will be at the Top Club in
Little Hulton. we'd love to see you.
FRIDAY 9TH JULY 2010 - WALKDEN LEGION
Don't these months fly by, doesn't seem like four weeks ago since we were at Walkden.
This was a good night, we seemed to pull in plenty of our regulars, athough there were
a few "Motown Virgins" who were trying it for the first time. Hope you enjoyed it folks
and that you will be coming back. Good turn out from the "A Team" although there
matriarch Diane was absent in Benidorm being arrested by the spanish police. We are
attempting to organise a collection to get the bail money together.
On the birthday front we had the lovely Elaine who came to us for the 50th , didn't look
that age to me Elaine, but anyhow happy birthday my love make sure you come back
and see us soon. Also we had my mate Pauline who normally works at Walkden but
had a night off, we're honoured that she choose the Motown to celebrate the birthday
with us. Happy birthday my love there's loads more birthdays to come.
That's it gang, were back at Walkden on Friday 6th August 2010, if you didn't make it
this time make sure you make it next time. Next Friday we're at Swinton Legion we'd
love to see you.
FRIDAY 2ND JULY 2010 - BOOTHSTOWN LEGION
Nice to be back at Boothstown again it's been a while, shame we lacked in the numbers
department again. Looks like if this keeps up I could be going back into retirement
again. The "A Team" were with us as ever, I think these guys should be getting Air Miles,
because wherever I go they are there. The didn't seem to be as many "Motown Virgins" as usual, but if you were new I hope you enjoyed yourself.
On the birthday front we had a couple of special ones. Firstly celebrating his 60th with
us was Colin, happy birthday my man, these guys used to go to the CIS in Manchester, unfortunately that's going back about 40 years. Those were the days believe me. Then
at the younger end of the spectrum we had Jamie who came to the Motown for the first
time with his parents. Happy birthday Jamie stick with Motown you won't go far wrong. I
still don't believe that was your mum, reckon it was really your sister.
We'll be back at Boothstown on Friday 27th August, try and make it a date. If you fancy
a bit of Motown next Friday you'll find us at Walkden Legion.
FRIDAY 25TH JUNE 2010 - TOP CLUB LITTLE HULTON
Good to be back at Little Hulton, it's a shame we don't seem to be getting the numbers
that we were at the Top Club. Nevertheless it must be said that it was a great crowd, the
best we've had at Little Hulton for some time. As always thanks to the "A Team" for yet
again turning out, it was also good to see quite a few "Motown Virgins" who were
enjoying the Motown for the first time. Nice also to see some of our own friends from
the Con Club days, you've been away too long gang.
On the birthday front a couple of important ones. Firstly the terrible twins Bev and Alison
are celebrating the 42nd on Tuesday, it was good to have you with us girls. Also the
lovely Karina who had her birthday bash with the girls at the Motown.
We're back at the Top Club on Friday 23rd July 2010, try and make it. If you fancy
Motown next week make it to Boothstown Legion its a good one.
FRIDAY 18TH JUNE 2010 - SWINTON BRITISH LEGION
Never again will we try and run a night when England are playing in the world cup, unfortunately this date was booked long before the world cup dates were announced.
Anyhow thanks to all the people who turned out, it did look early in the night as though
we were running a furniture exhibition, but thankfully the number arrived after the
football had finnished. As ever thanks to the "A Team" who support me wherever we
are, also thanks to the new faces who gave us a try for the first time.
On the birthday front we only had one to report, the lovely Jane decided to spend
her 50th with us. Happy birthday Jane I hope Mike and the gang made it a special
evening for you. If there were any other birthdays I'm afraid I didn't hear of them.
We're back at Swinton on Friday 16th July 2010, hope to see you then. Next Friday
it's back to the Top Club at Little Hulton.
FRIDAY 11TH JUNE 2010 - WALKDEN LEGION
Well it was good to be back at Walkden, and considering it was the first night of the
world cup and the start of the holiday season it wasn't a bad turnout. Thanks to everyone who turned out especially the "A Team" who seem to be with us wherever we go. Don't
know what I'd do without you gang. Also nice to see a few "Motown Virgins" with us sampling the wonders of Motown for the first time. As I've said before folks it's a bit like sex the more you get the more you want !!! What's it like to be a virgin again Debbie !!!
Now on the birthday front we had a few special ones, firstly the lovely Liz, happy birthday
Lovely Lizzie, then we had our own Cleavage sister who seemed more keen on abusing her fella than doing the birthday thing. The really big one was the Lovely Lynn, me and
Lynn go back many many years all the way back to the Uncle Toms days. It was great
that Lynn came to the Motown for that very special night.
We're back at Walkden on Friday 9th July 2010, try and make it a date, you'd be daft
to miss it. Next Friday we're at Swinton Legion.
FRIDAY 28TH MAY 2010 - TOP CLUB LITTLE HULTON
This was the first time for a long time that we had what you might call a disappointing
crowd at Little Hulton. Don't know where all my people went, I hope it picks up as it
would be a shame not to have the Motown in Little Hulton. To all the "A Team" who
turned out in numbers thanks gang don't know what I'd do without you. And to any
Motown Virgins who joined us for the first time hope you enjoyed it folks.
On the birthday front, a very happy birthday to Mike Burdaky on Tuesday. Mike and his
brother Tony go back with us right to the start of the Motown, and they are still going
strong if a little bit older. Also happy birthday to Lance Astbury who came to the Motown
for his 53rd birthday, happy birthday Lance.
We're back at the Top Club on Friday 25th June 2010 hope to see you then.
SATURDAY 15TH MAY 2010 - ORDSALL BRITISH LEGION
This was the start of our Saturday evenings and our first visit to Ordsall Legion. Firstly
thanks to everyone who turned out in such large numbers. Unfortunately most of my
"A Team" didn't fancy making the trip all the way to Ordsall, but a special thanks to
Danny & Sam who made the trip, also Greeny and Mrs Greeny who found us eventually,
better late than never.
We seem to have loads of birthday so here's a few name checks. Firstly we had John
Stone who was celebrating his 25th birthday. Then we had the lovely Adele who was
out with all the girls and her family for her 33rd birthday. Then we had what must be
a record for our Motown nights, Charlie Bell who was with us for his 90th birthday, you're
looking great Charlie Happy birthday. And finally the big one was Dianne who was
out with all her friends for her 50th birthday. So you get the idea the whole evening
ended up like one big birthday party.
We are on holiday next week but the "Motown" will be back the week after on Friday
28th May at the Top Club Little Hulton.
FRIDAY 14TH MAY 2010 - WALKDEN LEGION
This was our monthly visit to Walkden, and as ever it was the usual packer. Thanks
for turning out in numbers as ever folks. My ever reliable "A Team" were there with almost a full quota, and as always we had loads of "Motown Virgins" who were doing it for the
first time. Hope the virgins enjoyed there first night. It's just like sex the more you do it
the better it gets.
A couple of birthdays that need a special mention, firstly Sylvia who was 58 and wouldn't
have dreamed of going anywhere but the Motown for her birthday. Me and Sylvia go
back a long way, and she is one of the few surviving Uncle Toms people. Happy birthday
Syl you know I love you really. Also one of my newer friends Trevor from Boothstown
came to the Motown for his birthday. This is the man who came to the Motown and
forgot his money, by your age Trev you should remember these things.
We will be back at Walkden on Friday 11th June 2010, hope to see you then, and don't
forget Saturdays have now started, check Forthcoming dates for venues.
FRIDAY 7TH MAY 2010 - BOOTHSTOWN BRITISH LEGION
Nice to be back at Boothstown, this is a great room it's a shame we don't get the
numbers there that we get elsewhere. As always the A Team were out in force, thanks
for your support gang, don't know what I'd do without you. It was good to see the return
of some faces that we haven't seen for a while. Elaine and the girls finally returned
to the Motown, you've been away for far too long ladies. Also we had the return of Dave
who has been in exile in Scotland.
A couple of events worthy of mention. Firstly we had a young man who sort of fancied
himself as a Michael Jackson tribute act. There's a couple of photos of his moves. The
big event of the night was Tony Berdaky's 54th birthday party, well he tells me he's only
54 but there was some debate about the figure. Either way happy birthday Tone. Tony and his brother Mike go right back to the start of the Motown with us. Top men.
We are back at Boothstown on Friday 2nd July make the effort it's a great night. Dont
forget we start our Saturdays next week on SATURDAY 15TH MAY at Ordsall Legion. It's
a great room well worth a visit.
FRIDAY 30TH APRIL 2010 - TOP CLUB LITTLE HULTON.
Little Hulton, a packer as usual. What can I say about this place apart from it was
eventful. Motown has been massive in Little Hulton for about 40 years, right back to
the Uncle Toms Cabin days. As ever we had the support of the regulars, don't know
what I'd do without you gang, also we seemed to have quite a few "Motown Virgins"
with us which was nice to see. Although God knows how they have missed us for all these
years. Hope you'll become regulars folks.
The birthday front was pretty quiet, but we did have a couple firstly Carol who choose
to celebrate her 25th birthday with us, and also one of the "Leigh Lovelies" Pat who
hits the big 50 today. Happy birthday ladies, hope you come to plenty more Motowns.
We are back at the Top Club on Friday 28th May 2010, don't miss Little Hulton's top
night out.
Also don't forget we start our SATURDAYS soon, first night Saturday 15th May at
Ordsall British Legion in Salford.
FRIDAY 23RD APRIL 2010 - SWINTON BRITISH LEGION.
St Georges Day what a cracker at Swinton. Going back for years and years Swinton
has always loved Motown. We seem to have eatablished a regular crowd here, which
is good to see. Thanks to all our regulars who motored in from all over the place, it
never fails to amaze me how far some people come from. I hope you think it's worth
the effort gang. Also to any "Motown Virgins" hope you enjoyed it folks and will be
back with us on Friday 18th June 2010.
Not a lot else to report, if we had birthdays nobody told us about them. We will be back
at Swinton Legion in eight weeks time on Friday 18th June 2010. After that itsd pretty
much every four weeks for the rest of the year. Make sure you make the Motown your
regular date.
Starting in July we will be doing regular SATURDAYS at Swinton Sports & Social. That's
the old Conservative club on the end of the precinct. All the dates are on the Forthcoming
Dates page. Give it a try it should be good.
See you on Friday 18th June at the Legion.
FRIDAY 16TH APRIL 2010 - WALKDEN LEGION.
This was another good un at Walkden. We seemed to see the return of loads of sick
notes from the last few weeks. The A Team was out in force again, having flown in from
all over the place, and as ever we had plenty of "Motown Virgins" doing it for the first
time. Come back again gang you won't be disappointed.
Not sure why, but we seemed to be overun with birthdays this week. Firstly we had my
number one "Supreme Girl" Jean who couldn't have her birthday anywhere else but
the Motown. Then we had the ever popular Wayne Rand on number 46 alledgedly, and
also Ian who came to the Motown for his 60th. To you all Happy Birthday gang, keep it
Motown all year.
A couple of new additions firstly Greeny has joined us, say Hello to him nice bloke. And
we now have a "Motown Munching Machine" outside, these are the boys for the Hot
Dogs and Burgers.
Finally may I apologise for "Rick Astley" I know it's not Motown but the lady was very
good looking !!!!
We're back at Walkden Friday 14th May 2010, make it a date. Next week its back to
Swinton Legion, it's a good one.
Starting Saturdays soon, dates are on the "Forthcoming Dates" page.
FRIDAY 9TH APRIL 2010 - FARNWORTH VETS
Not a lot to report from our third visit to the "Vets". A good crowd turned out although
it wasn't the packer the previous two visits have been. The "A Team" was fragmented
more than somewhat, we only seemed to attract Sam & Danny to the wonders of
Farnworth, even the ever reliable Diane put a sick note in. To all those who did attend
from all over Greater Manchester thanks gang. And to any "Motown Virgins" who turned
out for the first time, hope you enjoyed it folks, come again.
A special thanks to Steve the steward and the bevy of beauties behind the bar who
managed to keep the booze flowing with no problem. A special happy birthday to Rob
who choose to celebrate his 60th birthday with us. It was also nice to see a few faces
returning who we haven't seen in ages. Great to have you back team.
We're back at the Vets on Friday 30th July 2010, hope you'll make it a date. If you fancy
Motown next week you'll find us at Walkden Legion.
FRIDAY 2ND APRIL 2010 - TOP CLUB, LITTLE HULTON
What can I say about this place. For anyone who wasn't old enough to attend Uncle
Toms Cabin, this is the nearest thing to it that I have ever seen. What an atmosphere, if
you were there and didn't enjoy yourself, you need help.
Usual thanks to all the troops, we had most of the A Team in attendance, you know who you are thanks as always. Also to all the "Motown Virgins" where oh where have you been, after witnessing this I guarantee you will be back, and hopefully become regulars.
Everything seemed to go fine,no plumbing problems or any other problems, I told you
we'd get it together eventually. A few birthdays to report happy birthday especially to
Bernard who has been with us right back from the early days. Also the big birthday belonged to Kay, who choose us for her birthday bash with all her friends and family.
To me she didn't seem old enough to have a son of the age he was.
Thats it folks, were back at the Top Club in four weeks on Friday 30th April 2010, make sure you are there. Next Friday were at Farnworth Vets.
FRIDAY 26TH MARCH 2010 - SWINTON BRITISH LEGION.
It was good to be back at Swinton, for yet another packer, it's becoming quite the place
to be. Going back years Swinton has always loved its Motown. Thanks to all my regulars
who came in from all over Greater Manchester, you never let me down. And a very special thanks to all the "Motown Virgins" who were at the Motown for the first time. Hope you
enjoyed it folks, you won't find a better Motown night than this anywhere. We set one
record at Swinton for the earliest arriver's, this goes to Dianne and Cheryl who turned
up at 6.30pm and started drinking. How they didn't leave on stretchers beats me.
Loads and loads of birthdays too many to mention them all sorry. A special mention to
all my dancing girls on the balcony, you made my night girls, I've never seen so many
dancing boobs. Come back soon ladies.
We're back at Swinton on Friday 23rd April 2010, hope you can make it again folks. let's
do it all over again. If you fancy more Motown before then you will find us at the Top
Club Little Hulton next Friday.
FRIDAY 19TH MARCH 2010 - WALKDEN LEGION.
Back to Walkden and another packer to report. The people of Walkden really know how
to enjoy themselves. Thanks to all the "Motown Virgins" who were sampling the wonders
of Motown for the first time. Where have you been gang we've been here for four years.
We were missing loads of our regulars who were on there annual trek to Prestatyn, hope
you enjoyed it gang.
We were honoured to be the choice of venue for a very special 50th birthday of the
lovely Bev. The girls all turned out for a cracking night at the Motown. Come back soon
girls it's a great night. I was also visited by a total "Blast from the Past" a friend of mine
from 40 years ago one Mr.Stewart Charles. Stewart was the lead singer for a band called Life N Soul who were massive around Manchester 40 years ago. Good to see you can
still bop with the best of them Stu.
We are back at Walkden on Friday 16th April 2010, make sure you don't miss it. If you fancy Motown next week we are at Swinton Legion, hope to see you there.
FRIDAY 12TH MARCH 2010 - BOOTHSTOWN BRITISH LEGION.
Not a great deal to report from this evening. It must be said as things have been going
recently it was a pretty disappointing turn out. But what we lacked in quantity we most
certainly made up for in quality.
As ever most of the "A Team" were there to support me. I love you gang and without
you I'm nothing. Good to have Garry & Jean back at the Motown, you've been away for
far too long. Also the long awaited return on Miss Universe and Little Hulton number
one Poser, now you two have definetely been away too long. To any "Motown Virgins"
who were trying the Motown for the first time hope you enjoyed yourself folks. We seem
to be specialising lately in "Mother & Daughter" combinations, how goods that, I'm all
for it.
Right we are back at Boothstown on Friday 7th May 2010, come and join us you'll have
a cracking night. Next Friday it's back to Walkden Legion, see you there.
FRIDAY 5TH MARCH 2010 - TOP CLUB LITTLE HULTON.
Unbelievable, what else can I say. Little Hulton has been supporting me for forty years,
and you're still there. Thanks gang I love every one of you. To say it was a burster is under
estimating it. Firstly thanks to the "A Team who I know will support me come rain or shine.
They come in from all over Greater Manchester. Also thanks to all the "Motown Virgins"
who were doing it for the first time. Just look at what you've been missing folks, now
you know it's true what everyone has been telling you. This is the greatest Motown
Night in the north of England.
A special thanks to Paul the steward and all his hard working staff who managed to
keep the booze flowing without any problems this time. Thanks gang.
We had so many birthdays with us I was struggling to keep up with them, but a special
mention to Shelley my number one birthday girl. Pissed again Shell, thank goodness
we had Sandra there to keep some order (well just about). We didn't have any large
parties which was probably just as well, cause I don't know where we would have put them.
Lastly thanks to Tony who always helps with the Teddy Bear draw. Your suppose to
give them a peck on the cheek Tone, not get into a full "Tongues" session. I guess there
has to be fringe benefits with every job. Finally to the gentleman who wondered if we
might play some Guns & Roses, behave yourself Dan !!!
We are back at the Top Club on Friday 2nd April, hope to see you then. If you fancy some
Motown next Friday we are at Boothstown Legion, it's a great room, if you've not been
before give it a try.
FRIDAY 19TH FEBRUARY 2010 - WALKDEN LEGION.
Doesn't time fly, here we are back at Walkden doesn't seem like a month since our
last visit. As ever for Walkden it was a absolute burster. I think we had quite a lot of
"Motown Virgins" attending, lord only knows where they have been for the last four
years. My regulars were a little thinner than usual, don't know what I'd do without Diane
Sam and Lorna, a few of The A Team gone missing again. Time you got a new job Tone!!
Whoever you were thanks for supporting us, we need you.
A few special events to report. Firstly we had loads of birthdays Stella, Joyce and loads of
others, sorry if I've missed the names. Then we had Lynn and the girls who were out on
Lynns "Hen Night", what better place for an Hen night than the Motown. And finally we
had a party of my favourite "Dinner Ladies" who are evidently being split up on the work
front. Hope your still going to come to the Motown girls. Don't forget folks if you're having
a party there's no better place to celebrate than "The Motown",
Next week we are having a rare night off, but will be back stronger than ever on Friday
5th March 2010 at the Top Club, Little Hulton. Were back here at Walkden on Friday
19th March 2010.
FRIDAY 12TH FEBRUARY 2010 - FARNWORTH VETS.
It was good to be back at Farnworth, as we haven't been here for a few months. As ever
we seemed to have more people who were new to the "Motown", hope you enjoyed it
folks and will be back to see us on the 9th April if not before at one of our other venues.
My regulars were in attendance as ever, the "A Team" never lets me down, although
they travel in from all over Greater Manchester. To everyone thanks for supporting us, as
I've said before we are nothing without you gang.
A couple of special mention, nice to have Sylvia back with us at the "Motown", she's been
a bit off colour, sticking in sick notes week after week. Also a special Happy Birthday to
Sharon, better known as number one "Santa's Helper" at our Christmas Motown. Thanks
Tone for giving us the info. The big event of course was meeting Charlotte otherwise
known as Mrs Greeny , God the woman must be a saint standing for him.
Next week it's back to Walkden Legion hope to see you there folks. We'll be back at
"The Vets" on Friday 9th April 2010, make it a date gang you won't be sorry.
FRIDAY 5TH FEBRUARY 2010 - THE TOP CLUB, LITTLE HULTON
For forty odd years Little Hulton has never let me down, and you bet your life they did
the business again for me. We've had some good first nights in the past, but this one
must take the biscuit.
It always promised to be a packer, and so it turned out at our new home in Little Hulton.
There were one or two teething problems, but you know we'll have them sorted out by
next time gang. Thanks to all my regulars and also all the "Motown Virgins" for making this a great night. We saw some friends we haven't seen for ages, great to have you back at the Motown Wend and John. Pierre also popped in to make sure order was being kept, it was like the old days.
Speaking of the old days, we had a visit from one of the old Uncle Toms disc jockeys one
Mr Paul Worrell. We've been looking for this guy for ages, any other Uncle Toms staff out there come and say hello gang.
I'd love to know what you thought of it folks, come on make the time to send me an E Mail, because as I keep saying without you were nothing, so let me know.
Next week it's Farnworth Vets and we are back at The Top Club on Friday 5th March,
make sure you make it again.
FRIDAY 29TH JANUARY 2010 - SWINTON ROYAL BRITISH LEGION
Our first visit of the year to Swinton Legion and it proved to be another cracker. Loads
and loads of new faces to the "Motown" and quite a few who had been with us before.
We are starting to get quite a few Swinton regulars which is great to see, and of course
loads of "Motown Virgins". You will go a long way to find a better Motown night than this.
As always we had Di and the gang who are with us wherever we go, nice to see Dave
back after his trip to the Northern Link. Colin the Dancemaster motored up from Stockport
to show his skills off.
Swinton has always been mad - we had our own John Travolta lookalike with us he's on
the photo's. Also Norma had her birthday night out with the girls. Apart from that it just
turned out to be a cracking night. Special mention should also be made for the return of
"The Cleavage Sisters" it's always an uplifting event to see these two ladies. They hadn't
been with us since before Christmas.
Our next visit to Swinton is on FRIDAY 28TH MARCH 2009, unfortunately our intended
visit in February has been cancelled due to a cock up in the bookings. Make sure you
make it folks on Friday 28th March.
FRIDAY 22ND JANUARY 2010 - WALKDEN ROYAL BRITISH LEGION
This was the first night of 2010 at the venue of our monster Christmas bash. Good to be
back at Walkden and see so many of the regular faces back at the Motown. We were
missing a few of our regulars who choose to go to the Northern Link but that's there choice. To our actual "A Team" including the returning Tone we love you gang. To any
"Motown Virgins" who attended for the first time, welcome along folks where oh where have you been for the last three years.
We had a few birthdays to report, firstly the lovely Lorna who choose the Motown for that
special night, this lady knows how to celebrate. Then there was June whose birthday it
had been this week. June goes back all of the three years we've been going, happy birthday my love, and last but by no means least Norma from Swinton, whose having her
birthday bash at Swinton next week, happy birthday Norma.
Finally you will see from the photos some of our regulars have started a new fashion of
giving me the finger, I know you love me really gang behave yourselves.
Next week it's Swinton British Legion and we are back at Walkden on Friday 19th
February 2010 make sure your with us gang.
FRIDAY 15TH JANUARY 2010 - BOOTHSTOWN BRITISH LEGION
Hey gang it's great to be back for another year. Jimmy and myself have bearly been
out for a month, there was a danger of us both becoming housebound. Firstly what a
magnificient turn out for early January, I thought it might be a bit quiet, but I should have known better, you're always there when I need you gang. To anyone who was new to
the "Motown" hope you enjoyed yourself you are no longer "Motown Virgins", welcome along let's hope you become regulars. To all my regulars thanks folks where would I be
without you.
If you take a look at the photos, you will see a few different ones than normal. James seems to fancy himself as a beach photographer at Blackpool, getting a bit of practice
in, some stunning shots. It was good to have the dancing boys with us showing there moves. My number one ideas/promotion man Danny was well into it, the lovely M/s
Rowan had to watch her toes Dan. Top man. There were a few sick notes from "The A Team" mentioning no names, but you're on a yellow card Tone!!!
All told it was a great start to 2010, lets keep it going folks.
Next week it's Walkden hope to see you there. We're back at Boothstown on Friday 12th
March 2010. Sure it will be good.
MY PROFESSIONAL LIFE:
I started disc jockeying at "The Limit Club" Middleton where I was the assistant to the
assistant of the assistant of the disc jockey (In other words I went for the Coke's no booze
in those days). From there I went as second assistant at "Bury Palais"(big promotion).
Eventually the big break came and I got a job as number one disc jockey at a club
on Deansgate in Manchester called "The Majestic" This was quite a popular club mainly
Motown/Soul All Nighters the lot. From there I went to "The New Century Hall" in
Manchester this was all big name charts acts Who/Small Faces/Etc.I was also at this
time doing one nighters all over the country. Then the call came from one Tom Brown
would I like to DJ and part manage a club in Little Hulton called "Uncle Toms Cabin". To
be honest I don't think I even knew where Little Hulton was then, I soon found out. There
is a full Uncle Toms story elsewhere on the site. This is where I first meet Jimmy Barlow
and we have been friends ever since. From there I went to" Uncle Toms Cabin" in Darwin
near Blackburn (this was both Cabaret and Disco). Eventually I moved on from there and
worked at "The Beachcomber" and "The Empress" clubs in Bolton. Then came my first
stint in Torquay where I worked at "The Compass Club". By this time I was doing more
managing than disc jockeying which was probably a mistake. I then came back to
Manchester and ran "The Brown Cow" which was a disco pub in Middleton. Then it was
back to Torquay working between "The Compass Club" and "The Blagdon Inn". At "The
Blagdon Inn"we ran an authentic "Spanish Barbeque" (All Viva Espania, San Gria, and
people dancing on the tables). Then it was back to Manchester again where I ran
"Bennys" a nightclub in Radcliffe owned by the footballers - all very glam. Then it was
back to Torquay for my last season there when I worked across four clubs and also had
my own guesthouse. The final move back to Manchester took me to managing firstly
"The Talk of The North" in Eccles, and then "Blightys" in Farrnworth. Then I decided
that that was enough and set up my present business and took a break from the
nightlife.
That's a very short history, I could write a book about it all (I may do one day).
